Finding joy at work and at home
To promote and advocate for physical, mental and emotional wellbeing amongst the Emergency Physicians at the Jewish General Hospital, and optimize our practice environment in such a way as to maximize wellbeing amongst the group.
To enhance individual joy at work, diminish stress, enhance recognition and appreciation of our physicians and provide support to our physicians in order to achieve balance.
By establishing this Physician Wellbeing program we hope to extend a hand to colleagues in need of assistance, prevent burnout and increase social events and engagement. We hope to find ways to help each other improve our practice environments in order to minimize stress and optimize the enjoyment of our workdays.
Our philosophy is that as Emergency Physicians, we need to be able to turn to our peers for advice, counseling and resources when we are in need. With this in mind, we are working on establishing a peer support network made up of EPs from our department. You will be able to reach out to the peer support lead at any time, and we will assign you a peer supporter.
We may also periodically reach out to MDs in need, whether undergoing the stress of complaints, CMQ investigations, litigation, adverse events, difficult patient experiences, violence in the workplace, and more. We may also reach out if we hear of a physician going through difficulty at home or outside of work, e.g. financially, personally, family related, etc.
Please don't interpret our email to you as intrusive; in fact, we will only reach out a hand and if you would prefer not to engage then we will leave you be.
Privacy wise, you do not have to worry that leadership will be involved, because they will not be. This service will be offered with the utmost confidentiality in the same way we afford this to our patients. We will not take notes. We will not record. We will not divulge unless as with all situations, there is a risk of harm to self or other.
We hope to help you all feel less alone going forward.
